I've seen the paddle holsters, retention holsters and a few molded leather ones but I've not seen one that would extend all the way down to cover the end of the barrel (except an Uncle Mike's nylon holster). My internet searches have not yielded anything so I thought I'd consult the CWT.com community, most of whom have forgotten more about firearms and shooting than I'll ever know. Any suggestions? Thanks.

the best holsters that i have found are made by el paso saddlery. they are a bit pricey but they are hand made to your specs and youll only buy one for each gun for life. they are made custom to your model. on their web site most of the photos show a ssa but in the description they can be made for an auto. when im handgun hunting i carry a either a 1911 or a ruger super black hawk both in ep saddlery tanker holsters. i like the tanker style because they are always easy to get at, they dont interfere with a back pack like a hip holders do.

I have been using TrileK holsters for years now and they are very well built and last. I have one for my XD as well as my P220.
Sportsmans Warehouse carries them also.

I make my own holsters, not hard just a little time consuming since they are all done by hand, some are tooled, laced, etc. Used to do leatherwork for money but people didn't want to pay a fair price for the amount of time I had invested. A pattern pack, snap setter, awl, needles and thread is all you need, you can pick up scrap pieces of leather for $5 to $10 bucks. Check Tandy Leather or The Leather Factory, there are stores for both in Phx and they are online.

I went to Caswell's in Mesa today and picked up a 4" XD 40 Caliber holster and they have all the holster for every gun you can think of. I also found out that they custom mold holster for any gun. Kydex holsters cover the barrel too.

Good Luck
